An Abuja Federal High Court has upheld the result of the Sokoto state gubernatorial election that led to the emergence of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal as Governor.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole who delivered judgment in the application filed by Umar Dahiru stated that the petition lacked merit and therefore stands dismissed.  The ruling also upheld Tambuwal's election.

Umar, a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) had approached the court seeking the nullification of the APC gubernatorial primaries that produced Tambuwal. He cited noncompliance with party guidelines as well as alleged violation of the electoral laws.
