The National Executive Committee of the All progressives Congress will on Monday hold a crucial meeting at the party's National Secretariat to take a final decision on the controversial one year tenure elongation of the current National Working Committee of the party.
The meeting which promises to be stormy because of existing diverse interests will have in attendance the President, Vice President, Senate President, the Speaker, state governors elected on the party's platform and the state chairmen of the party, among other members.
The meeting was necessitated by the sudden unfavorable disposition of President Buhari toward the one year tenure extension approved for the NWC in February by the NEC.
Following the president's position, the party set up a 10-man committee to harmonize the various opinions on the controversial tenure extension and advise the party. The Committee which was chaired by the Governor of Plateau state had since submitted its report, although the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun has refused to make it public.
It was gathered that some state governors who had supported the idea of tenure extension for the NWC have rescinded their position and have since aligned themselves with the President.
Meanwhile, others including the governor of Kogi, Kaduna and Ondo among others are reportedly planning to push through the tenure elongation agenda and are recruiting members of the NEC to support their position.
