A former House of Reps Member, Hon Sami Mohammad Takori has bereted some unseen hands that are trying to arm-twist the independence of the National Assembly as an arm of government by way of imposing leadership on it. Takori made this known through a statement calling on the international community and chairman of the Nigerian peace committee, former president Abdulsalam Abubakar to defend the parliament from the machination of some forces.

The statement reads; “It is not my desire to describe my county as a state where there is no rule of law. Since the beginning of the 4th Republic, there have been many ungodly, undemocratic, indecent, dishonest, unconstitutional attitudes”.

The former lawmaker kicked against the move by some vested interest to impose leadership on an arm of government which he described as a form of dictatorship in disguise and a clear violation of democratic tenets.

He called for a timely intervention by lovers of democracy in the Committee of Nations to come to the rescue of Nigeria so that the fragile democracy would not be truncated.
