Contrary to reports identifying Victor Moses, Azpiliecueta or Marcos Alonzo as best Chelsea defender, former Chelsea Player, Pat Nevin says none of these players has brought in the desired stability like Andreas Christensen.  Nevin, speaking with Newstalk said;

“His time at Gladbach really helped him. He had some Champions League games there. He looked quite good in Germany. I’ve watched him against Man United and the bits of pieces he’s played this season. Chelsea have Rudiger, Cahill, Luiz and Azpiliecueta at the back. He has been the most dependable defender. He starts now. He 100 per cent starts now.”

Nevin said it will be difficult for David Luiz to displace Christensen given his contribution so far.

“He has been playing a bit slow recently He thinks he’s Pirlo. He is pinging balls 60 or 70 yards. Chelsea need to zip it around and move it quickly. Kante comes back. Luiz is out. It was zipped around. It was moved quickly. I hope Luiz sat in the stands and realized that. It could help Luiz. He will come back in but it might not be right away.”

Since the return of Christensen from his loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach, the player has proven that he can be relied upon.

He was hailed for his superb performance against Manchester United last week, after making Romelu Lukaku non-existent in the game.

He is expected to retain his place since the manager, Antonio Conte has warned Luiz to fight for a place in the starting eleven.
