FG: Digital Tokens Will Be Introduced To Replace NIN Slip

The Federal Government (FG) has announced the introduction of digital tokens to replace the National Identification Number (NIN) slip.
This was disclosed in Abuja at a stakeholder’s workshop on NIN Tokenization Solution organized by the National Identity Management Commission. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami who was represented by the Director-General of NIMC, Aliyu Abubakar disclosed that the implementation of the digital tokens would begin on January 1, 2022.

Scientists Discover Perfectly Preserved Baby Dinosaur In China

Scientists have announced the discovery of an unprecedented fossil of a baby dinosaur curled up perfectly inside its egg. The dinosaur embryo, exquisitely preserved from at least 66 million years ago was discovered in Ganzhou, southern China. It is believed to be a toothless theropod dinosaur, or oviraptorosaur, and has been nicknamed Baby Yingliang after the name of the Chinese museum which houses the fossil. Researcher Dr Fion Waisum Ma said it is "the best dinosaur embryo ever found in history". Baby Yingliang measures 10.6in (27cm) long from head to tail, and rests inside a 6.7 inch-long egg at the Yingliang Stone Nature History Museum in China. The egg was first uncovered in 2000, but put into storage for 10 years.

MTN, Mafab Communications Win Bid For 5G Spectrum Technology

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) auctioned the two available slots of the 3.5 gigahertz band spectrum for the deployment of fifth-generation (5G) network in the country on Monday. The live auction which was held at Transcorp Hotel, Abuja saw MTN Nigeria and Mafab Communications Ltd emerge as winners in the keenly contested auction. Bidding started at $199.37 million and after eight hours and eleven rounds of bidding, the auction for 5G technology ended at $273.6m for each of the two available slots.

Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey Steps Down

Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey has disclosed his intention in stepping down from the social media service. Parag Agrawal, Twitter’s chief technology officer (CTO), will take over the helm, the company said Monday.

US Digital Giant Equinix Acquires Nigeria’s MainOne For $320M

US digital infrastructure company, Equinix, has announced that it is acquiring MainOne, a West African data centre and connectivity solutions provider with a presence in Nigeria, Ghana and the Ivory Coast, for $320 million. The acquisition is expected to close in Q1 of 2022, subject to the “satisfaction of customary closing conditions including the requisite regulatory approvals.”

Elon Musk Sells Tesla Stock Worth $5bn Days After Twitter Poll

The Chief Executive of Tesla Inc., Elon Musk disclosed on Wednesday that he had sold Tesla shares worth about $5bn, partly to cover his tax obligations. According to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the United States of America, Musk has sold about 4.5 million Tesla shares between Monday and Wednesday. However, the 50-year-old stills own about 17 percent of Tesla shares worth about $180 billion.
