Elon Musk Sells Tesla Stock Worth $5bn Days After Twitter Poll

The Chief Executive of Tesla Inc., Elon Musk disclosed on Wednesday that he had sold Tesla shares worth about $5bn, partly to cover his tax obligations. According to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the United States of America, Musk has sold about 4.5 million Tesla shares between Monday and Wednesday. However, the 50-year-old stills own about 17 percent of Tesla shares worth about $180 billion.


During the weekend, Musk conducted a Twitter poll where he asked his followers if he should sell 10 percent of his stock, promising to do whatever the respondents of the poll chose.

The poll generated about 3.5 million votes and 58 percent of the poll’s respondents told him to sell his Tesla shares.

According to Forbes, the world’s richest person, Musk, shares in Tesla make up most of his estimated $281bn fortune.
