The African Innovation Foundation (AIF) Thursday, announced the top 10 nominees who will be contending for the 2017 Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA), to be awarded in Accra, Ghana on July 18, 2017. Innovators from nine African countries including Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Kenya, Liberia, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe were shortlisted for the prestigious Prize.

A 27-year-old Nigerian, Godwin Benson's Tuteria, has won an engineering award by the UK's Royal Academy of Engineering FOR HIS design of a platform that links qualified tutors to students in their area and within their budget.
Tuteria who developed the app based on the experiences he had as a tutor, beat 16 other participants to clinch the £25,000 ($32,000) prize money.

Internet giant, Google, has announced its support for a Digital Journalism initiative to train 6 000 African journalists in data journalism skills by the end of February 2018.

A report by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has revealed that Globacom Nigeria recorded the largest percentage of data subscribers in relation to the total number of customers on any network in the country. This was contained in its report covering the first three months of 2017.

Delta Airlines

Delta Airlines is set to begin testing of face-scanning technology this summer so its passengers can check in their luggage. The airline will be installing the first biometric scanner in the Minneapolis – St Paul International Airport.
