The House of Representatives on Monday threatened to issue warrants of arrest for heads of ministries, departments and agencies for shunning its invitation to public and investigative hearings. The Speaker of the House, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; and Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Wole Oke, issued the threat at an investigative hearing organised by the committee in Abuja on Monday.

Federal Government Set to Raise N252bn From Privatisation in 2020

The Chairman of the Sokoto State Chapter of Bureau De Change Operators’ Association, Alhaji Aliyu Sahabi Yar’Abba on Wednesday appealed to the federal government to consider reopening the border. Speaking to newsmen in Sokoto on Wednesday, Abba posited that the closure was well thought out, but pointed out that it had taken a toll on commercial and trading activities, noting the effect on the northern parts of the country, especially in the front line states and local government areas. 

The Chairman of Taraba State Planning Commission, Mr Buba Mafindi, has said that over 35 million Nigerians are facing imminent starvation due to insecurity and desertification. According to Dailytrust, Mafindi made the observation in Jalingo on Friday during the opening of a one-day Child-Friendly Community Initiative meeting of stakeholders in the state organised by the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF).

MTN Earmarks $1.6bn For Investment In Nigeria - Pantami

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami expressed delight as the Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) budgeted 1.6 billion dollars to be invested in the Nigerian market within period of three years spanning between 2020 to 2023.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has projected Africa’s economy would grow at 3.9 per cent in 2020. This was contained in its 2020 Africa Economic Outlook launched in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, Thursday.  “Africa’s economic growth remained stable in 2019 at 3.4 per cent and is on course to pick up to 3.9 per cent in 2020 and 4.1 per cent in 2021”, the bank said in the report.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said no one in government should be afraid of audit if they have not misappropriated government funds. The President made the remark while declaring open the second edition of the conference of Auditors-General in Nigeria. He challenged auditors to adhere to the professional code of conduct guiding their operations while ensuring timely and quality review of financial performance of public officers.

Nigeria Government Restates Commitment to Economic Growth Through Infrastructure

NDDC: Buhari Writes Senate On Reconstitution Of NDDC Board

President MuhammaduBuhari has on Tuesday, 28th January 2020 written the Senate, informing it that recomposition of the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), would be done immediately after the Interim Management Committee had completed its audit oversight of the interventionist agency. Ahmed Lawan, President of the Senate, read the letter on the resumption of plenary today.
