The Federal Government of Nigeria has applied to pull out the “illegal possession of firearms” case it filed against the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Abubakar announced this during a sitting at the Federal High Court in Lagos State that the request followed the outcome of further investigations.
Joseph Daudu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria to Emefiele opposed the application following previous court’s order granting Emefiele bail.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State has adjourned hearing till Thursday, August 17, 2023, to rule on the application.
Also, the DPP confirmed a new 20 counts charges filed against Emefiele at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, that include “conferring unlawful advantages”.
