The Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru, said that the Corporation has concluded plans to commence oil exploration in the Lake Chad Basin in Six months. Baru, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the management of NNPC to Alhaji Kashim Shettima, the Executive Governor of Borno State at the Government House, Maiduguri, Borno State.
He stated that the corporation has concluded the arrangements to mobilise heavy equipment and sophisticated equipment to the area to begin exploration after successful completion of its seismic surveys.
Baru, further stated that the plan to begin the oil exploration was revealed after the military had given the corporation the assurance that it would provide adequate security after relative peace has returned to the Chad Basin after the Boko Haram militant group have been significantly degraded.
