Emerging reports indicate that the Gencos in the country are currently generating a mere 2,982 mw of electricity following avoidable crash recorded in the early hours of Monday.
Vigil 360 learnt that the situation may not be unconnected with the continued poor payment for gas supply to most thermal Generation Companies (GenCos). The development has forced 17 GenCos to stop power generation due to non-supply of gas, thereby reducing power generation by about 6000mw.
For instance, Egbin Power station which has the capacity to generate 1,100mw only generated 220mw due to poor payment for gas. Another 2,184mw was lost at Afam IV-V, Sapele Steam, and Afam due to gas constraints. Similarly, Alaoji NIPP which has an installed capacity of 504mw could not generate power following the management's inability to sign a gas deal
