Algerian authorities have seized more than 700kg (1,543lb) of cocaine smuggled aboard a container ship and made 20 arrests, reports Reuter's news agency.

The vessel was carrying frozen meat from Brazil and had previously docked in Valencia, Spain.

Central African Republic has approved a law creating a special criminal court to investigate allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity during more than a decade of ethnic and religious conflict, a lawmaker said. Hundreds have died in the violence and scores more have been raped and tortured but the perpetrators have not faced any meaningful legal pursuit, rights activists say.

Zimbabwe Announces Date For Election

Zimbabwe's president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has announced the country's national elections will be held on 30 July, according to Reuters news agency.

More than 100 political parties are expected to take part in the polls.

Ugandans who use the internet messaging service WhatsApp will be charged a daily tax of 200 shillings ($0.05; £0.04) after parliament approved a controversial new law on Wednesday.

It comes into force on 1 July.

Mobile money transactions will also be taxed, with a 1% levy on the total value of each transaction.

South African Train Fire Kills One, Injures Four

One person has died and four women have been left injured - one seriously - after a South African train was allegedly set ablaze this morning.

Pictures of the train burning on the tracks in Cape Town have been widely shared on social media.
