Heavy Floods Kill 120 in DR Congo

At least 120 people have been killed and dozens injured in widespread floods and landslides caused by torrential rain in Kinshasa the capital city of Democratic Republic of Congo. Entire neighbourhoods were flooded with muddy water, and houses and roads ripped apart by sinkholes and landslides, including the N1 highway that connects Kinshasa to the country’s main sea port of Matadi. Many of those who died were in hillside areas which suffered landslides.

President Buhari Receives Guinea Bissau’s National Honors Award

President Muhammadu Buhari traveled to Guinea Bissau on Wednesday for a one-day official visit to receive the country’s Highest National Honors Award in acknowledgment of his contributions to maintaining the political stability of the West African country. The special ceremony was held at the Presidential Villa and President Buhari received the award from his counterpart from Guinea Bissau, President Umaro Sissolo Embalo.

EU Pledges €1 Billion Support For Climate Change Adaptation In Africa

The European Union has announced €1 billion in support of climate adaptation in Africa. The sum is a starting point, he said. This was revealed in a statement by Frans Timmermans, the executive vice president of the European Commission. During his speech at COP 27 on November 16, in Sharm El-Sheikh, he laid emphasis on the event being an African COP and an adaptation COP. Timmermans said, the four members are France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark and that other countries could join.
