President Buhari Travels For ECOWAS Summit In Ghana

President Muhammadu Buhari departed Abuja on Saturday to participate in an Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government scheduled to hold in Accra, Ghana at the Presidential Palace also known as Jubilee House. This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina in a statement titled, ‘President Buhari To Attend ECOWAS Extraordinary Summit in Accra’.

President Muhammadu Buhari departed Abuja for Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday to attend a conference organized by the United Nations on the future of land, concerning desertification, drought, degradation, rights, restoration, and its implications on national and world economies.

Former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki Dies At 90

Kenya's former President, Mwai Kibaki, who led for over a decade has died at the age of 90, his successor, President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Friday. Kenyatta said this in an address on state television, ordering a period of national mourning until the day Kibaki is to be buried, adding that the nation's flags will be flown at half-mast. He said, “It is a sad day for us as a country. We have lost a great leader.”

President Buhari Departs Abuja For AU Summit

President Muhammadu Buhari departed Abuja on Thursday to attend the African Union (AU) Extraordinary Session of Assembly of Heads of State and Government scheduled to hold in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea from 26th to 28th May 2022. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu which stated that the Summit has a special focus on security.

Hilton Shuts Operations In Kenya After Five Decades

The Hilton Group of Hotels has stated that it is closing the iconic 53-year-old, Hilton hotel Nairobi on December 31, and will lay off some workers, redeploy others to hotels within its portfolio, underlining a deep in sales since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic as the reason for the closure. The group stated that it will not quit Kenya totally, and will continue to operate its other brands in the country, however, Hilton hotel Nairobi which is partly owned by the government (40.57%), will close its doors for the last time on 31st December 2022 and cease operations.

Flood Kills Over 300 In South Africa

South Africa is bracing up for more heavy rain in districts hit by massive and lethal downpours earlier this week.
Dozens of people have died after roads and hillsides were washed away and homes collapsed. The death toll in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal has reached over 300, after the devastating floods. The search for missing persons is still going on and the death toll is expected to rise. One family is said to have lost 10 members in the devastating floods.
Residents had to flee their homes but road infrastructure has been severely damaged. A state of disaster has been declared in the area, after some areas saw months worth of rain fall in one day. Officials have called it "one of the worst weather storms in the history of our country".
