Formula One announced in a statement on Friday that it has canceled the Russian Grand Prix, which was scheduled to hold on September 25, 2022.
The organizers of Formula One said the decision was made because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The statement reads, “On Thursday evening Formula 1, the FIA, and the teams discussed the position of our sport, and the conclusion is, including the view of all relevant stakeholders, that it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances.”
Similarly, the President of the Polish Football Federation, Cezary Kulesz said on Saturday that Poland will not play Russia for their 2022 World Cup play-off scheduled to hold on March 24 in Moscow, Russia.
He said, “It is time to act. Due to the escalation of the Russian Federation’s aggression in Ukraine, the Polish team does not envisage playing the play-off against Russia.”
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has generated various reactions from the sports world.
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced on Thursday that the UEFA Champions League Final scheduled for the Gazprom Arena in St. Petersburg, Russia would now be played at the Stade de France in Paris, France.
English football team, Manchester United also terminated their sponsorship deal with Russia’s national airline, Aeroflot.
Aeroflot has been the official carrier of Manchester United since 2013 but United did not use Aeroflot to travel for their Champions League match against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
