A team of medical doctors at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, in North East Nigeria, has successfully separated conjoined twins on Monday. This was part of the annual medical outreach of the Speaker House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, expected to offer free medical services to over 50,000 patients in Bauchi state.
The team comprising of medical doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and surgeons have already started attending to hundreds of patients who turn out for different medical needs.
Other services being provided include outpatient consultations, medical checkup with free drugs, ultrasound scanning, reading glasses and cataract operations, laboratory tests for diseases such as diabetes, hepatitis, HIV/AIDS and gynecological surgeries.
During the one week programme at the Trauma Centre of the Teaching Hospital, public health education on hygiene, malaria, TB, HIV/AIDS and Lassa fever among others would also be provided.
This is the third time in two years the Speaker is conducting free medical outreach in Bauchi which attracted people from neighbouring states like Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Yobe, Gombe and Adamawa.
