COVID-19: 11 New Deaths, 444 Infections, 32 Delta Variant Cases Recorded as Third Wave Hits Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has stated that the country has fully entered the third wave of the pandemic as it recorded 11 fatalities, 444 new cases and 32 Delta Variant Cases confirmed in Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Cross River, Oyo states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This has taken the death toll in the country to 2,160. The Director-General of the NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, made the disclosure about the B.1.617.2. (Delta) variant during the resumed briefing of the Presidential Steering Committee on Monday in Abuja.

WHO Donates Cholera Vaccines To Bauchi

Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, the Executive Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA) announced that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has donated 1.5 million dosages of cholera vaccine to Bauchi State during the kick-off of the vaccination exercise in the state. He stated that the WHO donated 1.5 million dosages of vaccine to support the state’s response to cholera outbreaks.

Cholera Outbreak Kills Seven In Enugu Artisan Market

At least seven people have died following a Cholera outbreak at the New Artisan Market in Enugu State, the State Ministry of Health said. Also, nineteen others who were infected have been evacuated to the State Teaching Hospital, ESUT-Parklane for treatment. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ikechukwu Obi confirmed this in a statement on Friday, saying the ministry has commenced contact-tracing, surveillance, and risk assessment at the market and its environs, noting that an Emergency operations centre for the outbreak has been activated to curb further spread of the outbreak.

New Polio Variant Hits 13 States, FCT In Nigeria - Experts

A new polio variant, circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV) has breakout in several communities within the country one year after the country was certified polio-free. It was reported that the cVDPV is contracted as a result of many factors, including refusing to take the shots or not completing polio vaccines.

COVID-19: Nigeria Records 206 Cases In 10 States

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) via a post on its Facebook page stated that the country has recorded the highest number of daily figures in months after recording 206 on Tuesday night and 146 on Monday, this tally has, therefore, has raised the total infection in the country to 169,884 and fatality toll at 2,128.

Oyo State Records COVID-19 Delta Variant

The Oyo State Coronavirus Taskforce has recorded the Delta variant of the virus in the state, days after the first case was discovered in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Mr. Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde made the disclosure in a statement, urging residents to intensify COVID-19 protocols and guidelines.

Nigeria Has Utilized 88% Of Total COVID-19 Vaccines In Stock - NPHCDA

It has been reported that Nigeria has utilised over 3.4 million doses of Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for both the 1st and 2nd vaccination rounds and this has amounted to approximately 88 per cent of the total COVID-19 vaccine stock in the country. The Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Faisal Shuaib during a national briefing of the COVID-19 Presidential Steering Committee on Monday further disclosed that “a total of 4,024,000 doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine were received by the Federal Government of Nigeria in March 2021".
