A retired inspector General of Police, AIG, Hakeem Odumosu had described the news making round in some media space that he was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the substantive Economic and Financial Crime Commission as the new chairman as fake news. Some section of media yesterday had reported that the retired police officer has been penciled to head the antigraft agency pending the confirmation of the National Assembly.

President Tinubu had some two weeks back suspended the EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa after some allegations were leveled against him, and has been handed over to the Department of states services for investigation.

However, Odumosu has released an official statement today denying the veracity of the rumor being carried out as fake news which shall be disregarded.

He disclosed he was not aware of such information, otherwise the Odumosu they are referring is not him.

In his statement, it partly reads; ”Good Morning, everyone, I have been inundated with so many calls and messages between yesterday and today on a purported “EFCC Appointment”. I just want to use this opportunity to debunk this information and say it’s totally untrue.

“This information must have emanated from mischief makers and should be totally disregarded,” he concluded.
