The Defence Headquarters has refuted the claims by Amnesty International (AI) that the Nigerian military failed to prevent the abduction of 110 schoolgirls in Yobe State despite being warned.

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday said this claim by Amnesty International is outright falsehood and misleading.

“It is pertinent to state that most of their narratives are outright falsehood and a calculated attempt to whip up sentiments and mislead unsuspecting Nigerians. To demoralise friendly nations and people collaborating with security forces to end the forces of evil in the North-East,” they said.

Officials of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have reportedly intercepted a trailer loaded with 24,000 bottles of cough syrups containing codeine in Funtua local government area of Katsina State. According to NAN, the NDLEA State Commandant, Hajiya Maryam Gambo Sani disclosed this during a press briefing on Tuesday in Katsina.

Troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade, Operation Lafiya Dole have killed four members of a militia group whom they encountered during their patrol at Burra Junction in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi state.

The troops who encountered the armed men on Saturday, said on sighting them, the militia opened fire on them (the soldiers) but they acted immediately killing four of them in the process.

At least 10 people, including Onu Agbenema, a traditional ruler, Musa Edibo, his wife, were killed in suspected herdsmen attack in Omala local government area of Kogi state.

The victims were killed on Monday in Agbenema, Aj’Ichekpa, Opada and Iyade villages in the local government area.

The attackers reportedly struck after laying siege in the bush.

The Department of State Services (DSS) says it has arrested Jonah Abbey, a “notorious gunrunner”.

In a statement on Sunday, Tony Opuiyo, an official of the DSS, said Abbey was arrested in Taraba alongside Agyo Saviour, his driver.

Opuiyo said Abbey sold weapons to criminal groups in Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Rivers, Imo, Anambra, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue and Taraba states.
