A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) high court sitting in Gwagwalada has on 30th January 2020 granted N50 million bail to Mohammed Adoke, former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
It can be recalled that Adoke was arraigned on 42 counts charges of alleged fraud alongside Aliyu Abubakar, Rasky Gbinigie, Malabu Oil and Gas Limited, Agip, a subsidiary of Eni, Shell Nigeria Ultra-deep Limited and Shell Nigeria Exploration Production Company Limited.
Also, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) alleged that Adoke received gratification worth N300 million from Aliyu over the deal for OPL 245. However, Adoke denied all the charges.
The presiding judge,Abubakar Kutigi ordered the former AGF to produce one surety who has a landed property in the FCT.He also granted bail to Aliyu Abubakar, the second defendant, in the sum of N50 million and with one surety. Rasky Gbinigie, the third defendant, got bail of N10 million, and he is also to produce one surety.
The judge also ordered that all the sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court, have landed property in the FCT, and must provide evidence of tax clearance for the last three years.
The bail conditions also requested the defendants to submit their international passports to the court and to sign an undertaking to always attend trial.The court warned that any attempt to jump bail would result in revocation of their bail.
