A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday issued a ruling on the terrorism charges against Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako struck out 8 of the 15-count charge bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism filed by the Federal Government against Kanu.
Justice Nyako said, “In this instant preliminary objection application, I have read the counts and come to the conclusion that counts 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 14 have not disclosed any offense against the defendant.
“Counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 15 show some allegations. The court shall proceed to try the defendant on those counts.”
Kanu was allegedly arrested in Kenya and repatriated to Nigeria in order to stand trial for terrorism and treasonable felony, however, his counsel is asking the court to strike out the charges and also claims that his client’s fundamental human rights were violated by the Nigerian government.
