A high court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Maitama has granted bail to the suspended Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, and co-defendants. The presiding judge, Justice Adeyemi Ajayi who gave the ruling on Thursday, adopted all the terms and conditions of the administrative bail agreement set by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He said, “In line with the due process and supremacy of the law, the defendants are still entitled to bail, irrespective of the enormity of the allegations against them. The EFCC did not in any of its processes, state that the defendants misbehaved while on administrative bail”.
According to the judge, the conditions of their bail include the defendants must remain within the FCT, must submit their international passports as well as seek consent before traveling out.
They must also sign an undertaking to not procure another international passport and sign an affidavit swearing to follow all the terms of their bail.
Idris and 2 co-defendants pleaded not guilty last week Friday on a 14-count charge bordering on alleged theft and criminal breach of trust to the tune of N109.5billion.
