According to reports, a kidnap victim residing in Abuja, who was identified as Segun Akinyemi was rescued by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Thursday. The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan disclosed this development, adding that the Kawo Divisional Police Headquarters, Kaduna State received a distress call that the culprits and their victim were transiting through Kaduna State reportedly on their way to Kano State.
He said, “The operatives at about 0010 hours, blocked a grey Toyota Hilux van with registration number Abuja RBC 90 DC, carrying four passengers, the driver inclusive, suspected to be the vehicle conveying the kidnappers and their victim.
“On sensing danger and in an effort to escape, one of the kidnappers fired at the policeman and they responded accordingly. In the resulting gun duel, the victim, a certain Segun Akinyemi of Garki, Abuja, was rescued and one of the kidnappers, a 28-year-old Chinaza Philip of Life Camp Abuja, was arrested.”
He further stated that 3 suspects escaped; Chidebere Nwodibi of Life Camp, Abuja; one Auwal whose surname is not yet known and the gang leader whose identity is yet to be determined and added that the victim was abducted on Wednesday, 17 January 2024 while leaving his home in Garki, Abuja.
The victim’s vehicle as well as two Retay G17 model pistols, one Beretta pistol, five 9mm special ammunition and ten 9mm P.A.K ammunition were recovered from the kidnappers.
The NPF urged members of the public to provide information of crimes to security agencies.
