The Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman during an interview on Wednesday on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today stated that members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) could get half of their withheld salaries, pending approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Mamman also stated that members of SSANU and NASU did not embark on strike during the same period as their academic counterparts in 2022, adding that the Federal Government’s (FG’s) compensation of academic staff was discretionary and does not automatically extends to the non-academic staff.

He also stated that the government has been “doing everything possible to get a relief for them.”

Recall that in March, SSANU and NASU members embarked on a one-week warning strike over their withheld salaries and also criticized the FG for the payment of withheld salaries of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) while ignoring the non-academic staff unions.
