A Kaduna State High Court on Wednesday denied the bail application of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El Zakzaky and his wife.
According to Dailypost, the Counsel to the Cleric, Femi Falana, SAN had filed a bail application, seeking to secure his release on health ground.
The presiding judge, Justice Gideon Kurada while delivering his judgment said the accused persons have not shown any substantial medical evidence to grant them bail. He, therefore, ordered that El-Zakzaky and his wife should remain in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, throughout the period of their trial.
Meanwhile, the matter has been adjourned to January 22, 2019.
Agitated members of IMN, popularly known as Shiites had resumed violent protest in the Federal Capital Territory over the continued incarceration of their leader. The protest had left some persons dead after a clash with the Nigerian Army.
Shiites in Iran have also commenced solidarity protest seeking the release of El-Zakzaky.
