Borno state Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has yesterday called on President Buhari to seek help from his Chadian counterpart for troops to help Nigeria forces fight Boko Haram. Though, the Chadian President Idriss Deby had declared that his Chadian troop will no longer participate in an external military operation after he complained that his allies had failed to go the extra mile in the fight against the Boko Haram and ISWAP.
Sometimes in April, a major operation lead by President Deby himself in the fringes of Lake Chad decimated over 1,000 insurgents.
Meanwhile, Governor Zulum is calling on Buhari to seek the Chadian help to support our military in the fight to finish.
Governor Zulum made this known while having an iterative season with the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) when they visited him in Borno.
It was reported that about 30 security men lost their lives in the last week ambush that was targeted at the Zulums convoy.
Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, NGF spokesman disclosed Zulum’s comments at the meeting with his colleague.
The Governors demanded that “to ensure that Chadian soldiers are invited to join the Nigeria Army in the fight against insurgency if any meaningful success is to be recorded on the battleground. Zulum rationalized that no single army anywhere in the world has ever succeeded in quelling the insurgency.
“He requested that the government looked into ways of complementing the efforts of the Nigeria Army with the Chadian soldiers, emphasizing that it is not to undermine the Nigerian soldiers, but to help them in finishing the job within a realistic deadline.”
