Zamfara state government has disclosed that it would spend a whopping N8.6bn for the setting up of modern Ruga settlement in the state.
Governor Bello Matawalle, the Zamfara state governor revealed this during the inauguration of one of the three as a pilot Ruga in Maradun Local Govt Area, his hometown amongst the three the state government has planned to set up.
He said that the state has planned to set up three Ruga one from each senatorial zone of the state estimated to gulp the sum of N2.877bn each.
According to the governor, each of the Ruga will be situated with 210 assorted two and three-bedroom apartments inclusive of western and Islamiyya schools, mosque, earth dams, and grazing land.
He revealed that other facilities to be included in the Ruga are; Police station, 130 units of shops and mini-marts, road and drainages among others.
Matawalle, who celebrated his 100 days in office with the official foundation-laying of the Ruga settlement, revealed the project would also include medical outreach to both Fulanis and their animals throughout the state.
While commending the initiative, his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Tambuwal, said that RUGA as an acronym for Rural Grazing Area, which was formed since the pre-colonial era for improved pastoral and farming growth.
Tambuwal described the unfortunate crises lingering between herders and farming communities as pathetic, saying the modern Ruga settlement to be established by the Zamfara government would go a long way in addressing the conflict.
