Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has called on politicians intending to contest the 2019 general elections to shun 'do or die' politics in the interest of the country. The Former President made the call on Saturday in Calabar at the Presentation of a book titled "Stepping Forward with Uti J.D Agban," written by Goody Jeddy Agba and Okoi-Uyouyo.
Chief Obasanjo said the overall aim of vying for any political office is to better the lives of the people. He explained that even if a politician fails to win an election, he can still achieve that aim by supporting the winner to pursue agenda that will better the life of the people.
"If you cannot be the chief servant you can be the assistant chief servant. This is because the chief servant cannot do it on his own. He has to work with others. Politics should not be about life or death. Politicians should learn how to thread with caution as 2019 elections draw closer."
Speaking at the event, the Governor of Cross River state, Prof. Ben Ayade urged politicians to support their leader irrespective of party affiliations. “Power is like the wind which blows away. In using power, one must do so with the fear of God.”
