Senators under the aegis of Southern Senators Forum have restated commitment to the unity of the country, describing agitations by Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for the conduct of referendum that will facilitate the establishment of an Independent Biafra State as misguided.
The Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio made this known yesterday in Abuja after the group's meeting held at the National Assembly Complex.
According to him, the group had to be resurrected because the North has similar forum. He added that decisions taken at these forums are usually for the growth, development and unity of the country.
“When they take decisions from the North, we will also take decisions from the South and from there, we will have a united voice in order to consolidate on the unity of the country. “We will make Nigeria one. Disregard any call for secession" he added.
Sen. Akpabio announced that Sen. Hope Uzodinma and Sen. Lanre Tejuosho were elected Chairman and Vice Chairman of the forum respectively. He listed other members of the executives to include Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa, Publicity Secretary; Sen. Duro Fasheyi Auditor while Sen. Stella Odua was elected Welfare Officer.
The Chairman of the forum in his brief remarks assured that the forum would work assiduously toward ensuring the unity of the country especially now that misguided youths are agitating for secession.
