Usman Ododo, winner of the November 2023 gubernatorial election in Kogi state has been sworn in as the governor. Ododo who took the oath of office at around 2:24 pm in Lokoja on Saturday 27th January 2024 won the November polls with 446,237 votes, defeating the closest rival, Murtala Ajaka, Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 259,052, and Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 46,362 votes.
The event had in attendance the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, the immediate past governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, and other executives and high-ranking members of the party.
The 5th Executive Governor of the state during his inaugural speech, pledged that under his leadership, Kogi State will become one of the sub-national pilots for key drivers of the Federal government programs in food security, poverty eradication, job creation, access to capital, inclusion of rule of law, the fight against corruption and overall economic growth which will have a local adaptation to the realities of Kogi State.
Before concluding, he appreciated the presence of one of his rivals, Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
