The Nigerian armed forces will on Thursday host their counterparts from the United States, Pakistan, Egypt and India at the Armed Forces Polo Tournament at the 1212 Polo and Turf Club, Gwarimpa, Abuja. Already, the teams have arrived for the tourney, which is meant to commemorate the Armed Forces Remembrance Day and deepen diplomacy among the participating countries.
Announcing the programme of event for the tourney on Tuesday in Abuja, the Chairman, Organising Committee, Maj. Gen. Junaid Bindawa (retd.), said Nigeria last hosted the tourney in 2006, which won by India.
He disclosed that 120 horses would take part in the event, with two games played daily.
Bindawa added that the teams would compete for the Commander-in-Chief trophy, Veteran’s Cup and the Fallen Heroes Cup.
He said “Nigeria had participated in many foreign polo tournaments in the world, noting that they are experienced and could compete favourably against any of the visiting teams”.
