World Cup winners, Germany have secured their first ever Confederation Cup title after defeating Copa America winners Chile. Borrussia Monchengladbach striker, Lars Stindl struck home the lone goal of the fierce encounter after a defensive blunder by Marcelo Diaz midway through the first half.
The goal animated the Chileans who deployed all tactics to draw level, but to no avail. Arturo Vidal and Angelo Sagal both blazed over the bar in the closing stages of the game, putting more pressure on the younger German side. However the admirable defensive discipline displayed by the Germans saw them absorb all the attacking pressure.
The record win was achieved without star players such as Manuel Neuer, Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos, and forward Thomas Muller who had assisted the country to defeat Argentina three years ago in Rio to be crowned world champions.
Germany and Chile had earlier drawn their group stage match 1-1 before qualifying for the semi-finals where they both won their matches to secure a rematch in the finals.
Julian Draxler was awarded the Golden Ball while Timo Werner earned the Golden Boot. The Golden Glove award was given to Claudio Bravo. Werner got the Boot after finishing level with Stindl and Leon Goretzka on three goals. However, he has more assist than others.
