The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed the termination of head coach Luis Enrique after suffering a disappointing last-16 exit from the World Cup in Qatar by Morocco.
The RFEF on Thursday issued a statement thanking Enrique for his service and has further expressed their desire to start a new project for the national team under the stewardship of Spain U21 head coach Luis de la Fuente.
The statement read thus: "The RFEF would like to thank Luis Enrique and his entire coaching staff for their work at the helm of the senior national team over the past few years. The RFEF sporting department delivered a report to the president which found that a new project for the Spain National Team should begin, aiming to continue the growth of recent years."
Luis Enrique, Lucho took over La Roja back in 2018 after the 2018 world Cup have managed 44 games, winning 24, drawing 11, and losing just 9. Under his management, Spain reached the semi-finals of the 2020 European Championship and the final of the 2021 UEFA Nations League.
