France's international football star also a Ballon D’ or awardee, Karim Benzema has announced his retirement from international football. His country team, France in the last 24hrs lost the FIFA World cup finals to Argentina through a penalty kick at the Lusail stadium in Qatar sending his comrades back home unhappy. Being the defending champion, it was a humiliating defeat to the French team, Benzema took to his tweeter page this afternoon and wrote, “I made the effort and the mistakes it took to be where I am today and I’m proud of it! I have written my story and ours is ending.”

Throughout the tournament, the football star was sent home on injury, but some analysts speculated that he might have returned for the finals after witnessing him playing a friendly for Real Madrid.

However, Daily reported that Benzema rejected the offer of joining his France teammate in Qatar after a fallout with his Manager, Didier Deschamps.

Deschamps had earlier said he was planning to hold talks with the French Football Federation in the New Year over the future of Benzema on the team.

The manager has led the France national team to two World Cup finals, winning one and losing one.
Just before going on injury, Benzema had won the Ballon d’Or award for the year.

He was a top scorer in Spain’s La Liga and the UEFA Champions League in the 2021/2022 season where Real Madrid won both competitions.
