Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos has described his teammate, Christiano Ronaldo as an "opportunist' for attributing the current slump in the club's performance to the exit of Alvaro Morata, James Rodriquez and Pepe. Speaking to Cadena SER, the Spaniard said it was wrong to claim that the current squad lacks the depth required to deliver stressing that after the exit of the players identified by Ronaldo, the club had won two super cups.
"I do not agree with Cristiano. I think it’s an opportunist opinion. When we won two Super Cups [UEFA Super Cup and Supercopa de Espana], nobody missed anyone. I would place more of the emphasis on injuries. The team is stronger when we’re all together.
‘I don’t miss anyone. No one. The squad has changed, of course, but some contribute some things and others have another role."
Real Madrid came under heavy criticism over recent abysmal performance that saw the club lose two crucial matches in one week. After losing to Girona, in the La Liga, ReaL Madrid were defeated by Tottenham in the Champions League.
In a bid to situate the challenges rocking the squad, Ronaldo said the exit of the trio may be responsible as the current Madrid squad is made up of young players lacking the requisite experience to prosecute big games. Madrid is currently eight points behind league leaders, Barcelona.
