Following increasing cases of vandalism of electricity equipments across the country, the House of Representatives on Thursday mandated its committees on power, police affairs, interior, national security and intelligence and federal judicial to examine and fashion out ways to prosecute these vandals.
The decision was taken after a motion sponsored by Hon. Francis Charles Uduyok. In his debate, the lawmaker said the failure of relevant authorities to prosecute vandals was responsible for the continued sabotage. He explained that if drastic measures are taken against the vandal, they would serve as deterrent to others.
He further noted that currently, the country was losing about five hundred million naira (N500,000,000) annually because of vandalization of electrical equipment, stressing that such funds would have been injected into the sector to produce and distribute more electricity.
