NUPRC Commissioners: Senate Confirms Four Nominees

The Senate confirmed the nominations of four commissioners of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) during plenary on Wednesday. The confirmation of the nominees was sequel to the consideration and adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream).


The report was submitted on behalf of the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Albert Akpan by Senator Patrick Akinyelure who stated that there was no petition or adverse reports received against any of the nominees.

Senator Akinyelure said the nominee’s appointment was in accordance with Sections 11 and 18 (1-5) of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), 2021.

He also stated that the nominees possess the requisite qualifications and leadership qualities to discharge the statutory duties and functions of the various offices.

Those confirmed include Dr. Nuhu Habib (Kano State/North-West), Development and Production; Dr. Kelechi Onyekachi Ofoegbu (Imo State/South-East), Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning; Capt. Tonlagha Roland John (Delta State/South-South), Health, Safety, Environment, and Community; Mr. Jide Adeola (Kogi State/North-Central).
