Grammy-Winning Rapper, Coolio, Dies Aged 59

Grammy-Winning rapper, Coolio who became famous after releasing global hits like “Gangsta’s Paradise” and “C U When You Get There” died at 59 years old. Coolio’s longtime manager, Jarez, revealed that the rapper was found lying dead in the bathroom of a friend’s house. According to Jarez, Coolio visited a friend and later went to the bathroom, but when he didn’t return after a while, the friend called for him and after no response, eventually went into the bathroom, where he was found dead.


The friend called paramedics, who arrived and declared Coolio dead, however, paramedics suspects he died from a cardiac arrest but an official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Coolio, whose real name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr., was born on August 1, 1963, in Pennsylvania, United States, and shot to fame in 1995 following the release of “Gangsta’s Paradise”, a soundtrack for Michelle Pfeiffer’s movie, “Dangerous Minds”.

The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was a global hit on the music charts of the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, among other countries.

The song also won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance at the 1996 Grammy Awards and was certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA.
