Just In: ECOWAS leaders Arrive Abuja for emergency meeting Over Niger Coup

Leaders making up the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government are presently converging on Abuja, the nation’s capital, for an emergency meeting expected to deliberate on the next line of action regarding the coup in the Republic of Niger. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, is expected to preside over the meeting, which kicks off in a few minutes at the Presidential Villa.

Death Toll Rises To 37 From Cameroon Building Collapse  

The death toll from the collapse of a four-storey building in Cameroon’s commercial hub and largest city Douala, 210km (130 miles) west of the capital, Taounde, has risen to 37. The regional governor Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua, while speaking to journalists on Sunday said The block caved in and fell onto another, smaller residential building at around 1am local time (00:00 GMT).

Six Killed In Banned Kenyan Anti-government Protests

For the second time in not up to a week, protests have erupted in Nairobi and other major cities in Kenya, bringing businesses to a standstill and causing major destruction around the country. A police official who sort anonymity said six people were killed, and more than 10 others were taken to hospital. He said 3 people were killed in Mlolongo city in Machakos county, 2 in Kitengela town near Nairobi, and 1 in the town of Emali on the highway to the port city of Mombasa. The official said the six who were shot for disrupting businesses, without elaborating. A health worker at Eagle Nursing Home clinic in Nairobi’s Kangemi neighbourhood said more than 50 school children in the capital city, Nairobi were tear-gassed.

Niger Republic: ECOWAS Won’t Accept Coup – Tinubu Fumes

Following the alleged blockade of the state house in Niger Republic, President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, will not accept coup in any of its member country. Yesterday morning, there was an alleged barricade into the state House, i.e, the presidential palace in Niger Republic by yet to be identified group locking the president out of his resident.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa says arresting Russian leader Vladimir Putin would amount to a declaration of war. Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu elected the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Tinubu emerged as the Chairman during the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, in Guinea-Bissau.
