New research suggests that a single night of sleep deprivation can increase levels of beta-amyloid protein involved in the making of Alzheimer’s disease. The discovery was made by scientists from the American National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). Beta-amyloid — also known as amyloid beta — is a sticky protein that can accumulate between brain cells and form “plaques.”

The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) in Nigeria has warned against the consumption of medications containing codeine. The Director General of the council, Mr. Babatunde Irukera who disclosed this in a statement said although codeine has not been declared an illegal drug, it is classified as a narcotic substance.

NDLEA Arrests 89 Suspects, Seizes 73.779kg Of Illicit Drugs In Bayelsa
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Bayelsa Command said it has arrested 89 suspects in connection with drug trafficking, narcotics abuse and other drug-related activities in the state. The agency made this known in a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday by its spokesman, Mr. Ikenna Osakwe. The statement disclosed that the command also seized 73.779 kilogrammes of different classes of illicit drugs in the state.
