The Kaduna State Government in its effort to reduce the menace of the spread of the COVID-19 has banned street begging and repatriated 3,000 Almajiri boys to their various states since Monday.
About seven buses were seen loading the Almajiri’s at Barnawa park belonging to Kaduna line Transport authority.
DailyTrust reported that one of the scholars who run an Almajiri school at Barnawa community of the Kaduna town informed the correspondence that the boys were being evacuated by the State Government to their various states, saying though they have lectured the Children on whey they were been returned and have all understood about the global pandemic.
Hajiya Hafsat Baba, the state Commissioner for Human and Social development when contacted revealed that about 3,000 of the boys were been repatriated to their various states, while those in states like Kastina, Zamfara, Bauchi and Saminaka in Kaduna state were provided with transport fare enough to take them home.
The Commissioner added that the exercise will be sustained until the state gets rid of the Almajiri’s to their various states adding that the popular Kaduna baggers House along Kawo road shall also be shut down by the state government.
Baba revealed that the state cannot leave some critical things to chances, saying the house was too crowded and the state authorities cannot guarantee their safety, meanwhile, leaders amongst the baggers have agreed to be law-abiding by following the government directives and the ministry has since briefed them.
In her statement,
“Their health is of importance to Kaduna state government but we resolved to include them in some of our programmes such as training and empowerment as well as providing additional rehabilitation centres in the state,” she said
“There is another place close to Kano road Mosque where they usually stay, we have also evacuated them. In fact, they have promised to leave for their states. On Tuesday, about three buses left with many of them including the blind, crippled and other vulnerable people.
Meanwhile, she thanked Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi who confirmed he personally sent text message to all his schools in the state to shut down.
