The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has today confirmed 12 new cases for the coronavirus which has pushed the confirmed cases to 151 in Nigeria.
The NCDC said the newly confirmed cases were reported in three states namely, Edo, Ekiti and Osun state, saying nine out of the cases were confirmed in Osun state, two in Edo and one case in Ekiti state.
The Health Agency said, as at 12:30 pm today, 1st April 2020 there are 151 confirmed cases of the deadly virus in Nigeria, nine have been discharged from the hospital, while two persons have died.
Nigeria has continued to struggle with the dreaded virus since last two weeks where Lagos state is one of the major entry points has remained the epicentre of the disease in the country.
Today afternoon a brief look at the statistics indicates the following; Lagos has 82 cases, FCT – 28, Osun – 14, Oyo – 8, Ogun – 4, Edo – 4, Kaduna – 3, Enugu – 2, Bauchi – 2, Ekiti – 2, while Rivers and Benue have one case each.
The health agency revealed all the new cases have mild to moderate symptoms and are currently receiving care.
In its quest to arrest the spread of the disease, the federal government had in last three days ordered the lockdown of some states suspected to be more vulnerable like Lagos, Ogun and the FCT.
The Director-General NCDC, Chikwe Ihekweazu, explained that now Nigeria has expanded its capacity for testing, more result would be reported by the agency.
Ihekweazu further explained Nigeria now has the capacity to test between 1000 samples a day and they are working on reducing the turnaround time for results.
The government is also working on tracking those who might have been exposed to people who have tested positive for the virus in the meantime, he said.
