President Donald Trump on Sunday, announced emergency authorization of blood plasma from recovered coronavirus patients as a treatment for those battling the disease, following its approval by the US Food and Drug Administration, FDA. The development was described by President Trump as "a historic breakthrough." One of his top health officials said it was a "promising" development, but other experts have cautioned that the treatment needs further evaluation before it should be celebrated.

COVID-19 Update: NCDC Confirms 417 New Cases, Toll Now 49,485

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has yesterday confirmed 417 new cases of coronavirus pushing the toll now to 49,485 in the country. The Health Agency made this known yesterday through its official twitter handle, saying they have recorded two deaths. NCDC revealed that as at yesterday, 49,485 cases have been confirmed in the country and 36,834 persons have been discharged while 977 persons could not make it across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. Meanwhile, the new 417 cases reported yesterday were from 17 states of the federation.

Kwara Deputy Gov And Wife Test Positive For COVID-19

Kwara state Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi and his wife Abieyuwa Alabi, have tested positive for COVID-19. The information was made public by the state's Technical Committee on COVID-19 spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Tuesday. In a statement titled, "Kwara Dep Gov. wife test positive for COVID-19, it was revealed that immediate contact tracing and tests have commenced with regard to the development.

COVID-19 Update: Death Toll Now Above 1,000

Five months after Nigeria confirmed its index case in Lagos state, the country has yesterday crossed the 1000 persons on its death record. The index death was first recorded on March 22, 2020. According to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as of August 23, 2020, five additional persons were confirmed to have died of the coronavirus complications pushing the death toll to 1,002.

COVID-19 Pandemic: Mass Deaths Eminent – PTF

The Federal Government has warned that eventually if the second wave of coronavirus strikes in Nigeria, it will jeopardize the economy and cause mass deaths to the public. The statement was made by the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu while giving an update on the daily briefing in Abuja. According to him, he advised businesses that are planning to re-open to abide by the precautions set out for the COVID-19 protocol at public places.
