The Governor of Cross River state, Prof. Ben Ayade has approved 24- hour security coverage of medical doctors and other health practitioners in the state following the increasing cases of kidnapping of doctors. The decision was disclosed to newsmen by the Security Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Jude Ngaji. He said the decision was reached after series of meeting between the state government and doctors.

The Niger State Government says it is targeting the immunization of about 1.4 million children against measles in 2018, to prevent the outbreak of the disease in the state. The Social Mobilizing Officer of Primary Healthcare Development Agency in the state, Alhaji Mohammed Usman stated this on Wednesday in Minna at a one day Media Orientation Workshop on Measles Immunization Campaign.

For the first time, scientists say they created cloned primates using the same complicated cloning technique that made Dolly the sheep in 1996.

Shanghai scientists created two genetically identical and adorable long-tailed macaques. The monkeys are named Hua Hua and Zhong Zhong, a version of the Chinese adjective Zhonghua which means the "Chinese nation" or "people."

The research was published in the journal Cell on Wednesday.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that its first release of surveillance data on antibiotic resistance shows high levels of resistance to a number of serious bacterial infections in both high- and low-income countries. WHO’s new Global Antimicrobial Surveillance System (GLASS) reveals widespread occurrence of antibiotic resistance among 500,000 people with suspected bacterial infections across 22 countries.

The Nigerian Senate has insisted that the embargo on the confirmation of appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari, which was taken in 2017 remains. The Senate President, Bukola Saraki stated this on Thursday while responding to a point of order raised by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa. The Senator raised the order after Saraki read a letter from President Buhari seeking the Senate's approval for the 2017 budget estimates of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The Government House in Owerri, the Imo state capital, have confirmed the death of three out of seven persons diagnosed of Lassa fever disease in Orlu Local Government area as well as other parts of Imo State.

Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha said the government is not resting on its oars to ensure all possible efforts are being made towards ensuring that the spread of the deadly disease is curtailed in the state, even as government is already taking drastic action.

The governor advised residents to remain calm and ensure they continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle and also keep clean environment.
