The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS headquarters has declared Monday, 5th December 2022 as a day they will stage a nationwide protest demanding the release of one of them, Aminu Mohammed, a student from Federal University Dutse who was arrested and sent to prison by Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Buhari over cyberbullying. NANS President, Usman Barambu, made this known today in a statement made available to the press, saying the protest will last until Mohammed is released from detention.
Contained in the NANS statement which Vigil360 cited, NANS said; “Sequel to the exhaustion of all options available to us before confrontation in seeking the freedom of one of us who was arrested in a questionable manner, tortured, molested, harassed and detained by agents of the government, you are hereby notified of the decision of the leadership of NANS to proceed on a nationwide protest.
The statement added, “We have consulted and consolidated which yielded no desirable results in seeking the freedom of Mohammed, hence, the protest shall commence as follows: Monday, December 5, 2022, nationwide.
“Please note that our demonstration shall continue until he is released unconditionally,” the statement said.
Earlier, Vigil360 reported that Mohammed was picked by security agents in a questionable manner from his school campus and was paraded to Aisha Buhari in her apartment where she personally supervised the torture of the said student.
He was later referred to court when Nigerians kicked the manner the boy was taken to a private apartment instead of a police station or courtroom.
On the order of Mrs. Buhari, Justice Yusuf of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja Ordered the student to be remanded in Suleja prison custody, Niger state on charges of cyberstalking.
The incident has generated mixed reactions on social media space with the majority calling for his release unconditionally.
Barambu reiterated that NANS has only one option left which is to protest on behalf of the student against the action of the first lady and the IGP of Police, Usman Baba.
