Unconfirmed reports indicate that the Anambra State Police Command has recovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) near Onitsha North Police Station. According to Dailypost, the IEDs were recovered around 12:30 pm after a distress call was made to the Police by residents in the area.
According to the report, the IEDs were successfully demobilized and removed by men of the Anti-Bomb squad under the Supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Joshak Habila. The development is coming few hours to the Anambra state Governorship election. Although no group has claimed responsibility, the move may be intended to force voters to boycott the exercise.
Recall that members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have insisted that elections must not hold in the state. They have called on the people to 'sit-at-home' or face the consequences. Meanwhile, security agencies have vowed to ensure a hitch-free poll. They have also warned groups attempting to foment trouble to shelve the plan as they will be decisively dealt with.
Meanwhile, the Police are yet to issue an official statement on the issue.
