Ekiti 2022: APC Reschedules Governorship Primary Election To January 27

The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its governorship primary election in Ekiti state which was earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, January 22, 2021. According to the revised timetable, the exercise would now hold on Saturday, January 27, 2021.

Nigerian Senate has passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill and has approved the electronic transmission of results. The approval was given on Tuesday when the lawmakers resumed plenary after a three-week recess.

PDP Convention: 21 New NWC Party Members Elected

Despite uncertainties surrounding the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) convention, the party yesterday successfully held its national convention at Eagles Square in Abuja, during which a new set of members from various parts of the country were elected into its National Working Committee (NWC) to take over the leadership of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections. Of the 21 vacant positions, 17 members contested unopposed. The party’s convention, which began on Saturday and lasted till Sunday in Abuja saw 21 newly elected members who are drawn from different parts of the country.

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji has died at the aged of 93. He reportedly passed on at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Sunday, as confirmed by palace sources.

Breaking: Imo Assembly Speaker Emeziem Impeached

Lawmakers in the Imo State House of Assembly on Monday impeached the Speaker, Paul Emeziem and the member representing Obowo constituency, Kennedy Ibe has been elected as the new Speaker of the Assembly. Emeziem was impeached during a plenary session by 19 lawmakers out of 27 in a signed letter over alleged gross misconduct, forgery, abuse of office, and high-handedness.

Court Okays PDP National Convention

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) national convention scheduled for tomorrow October 30 will hold as planned. This followed the decision of the three-man Appeal Panel sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to dismiss an interlocutory injunction suit filed by PDP’s embattled former national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, seeking to stop the convention from holding. Delivering the judgement, Justice Gabriel Kolawole said Secondus’ suit before it was as after-thought and abuse of court process.
The court blamed him for dragging his feet and not acting when his ward and local governments suspended him until now. The judge also held that Secondus did not oppose the notice of convention written by the acting chairman to INEC and did not also oppose INEC replying to the PDP through the acting chairman.
