Turkish President Promises Improved Relations With Nigeria On Defense, Energy, Hydrocarbons, Others

President Muhammadu Buhari showered praises on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday in Abuja for opening his borders to accommodate millions of refugees, fleeing from conflict areas, particularly Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, who are in dire need of humanitarian assistance. President Buhari while describing Erdogan as an exemplary leader for setting an example to the rest of the world described their meeting together as “robust, warm and cordial bilateral relation.” Recall that vigil360 reported that the Turkish leader was in Nigeria for a two-day official visit. The visiting Turkish President, during his meeting with President Buhari raised an alarm over the presence of a terror group hibernating in Nigeria, Fetullah Terrorism Organisation (FETO), as both nations, yesterday, signed eight critical bilateral agreements on energy, defence and hydrocarbon, among others. He said FETO, an atypical, armed terror group, exploiting religious sentiments of the people, was said to be behind the failed 2016 coup attempt in Turkey. “Turkey has been fighting against terrorist organisations for many decades, such as the PKK, PYD, FETO, DASH and other terrorist organisations.

Zamfara Assembly Suspends 2 Lawmakers For Aiding Banditry

The Zamfara House of Assembly has suspended two of its members, Yusuf Muhammad (APC) representing Anka and Ibrahim Tukur (APC) representing Bakura for allegedly aiding banditry in the State. The suspension follows adoption of a motion by Yusuf Kanoma (APC), a member representing Maru North on Tuesday, urging the house to suspend the lawmakers over the allegations against them. “One of them is suspected to have supplied information to bandits leading to the death of one of our lawmakers, Muhammad Ahmad, representing Shinkafi Constituency, who was killed on his way to Kano a few months ago. “The other was seen rejoicing after the kidnap of our Speaker’s father, who died in bandits captivity,” Kanoma said. 

Senate Threatens To Force NSA, NDLEA Boss To Appear Before SPAC

The Senate has threatened to invoke its constitutional power and force the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Gen. Muhammad Buba Marwa (Rtd.), and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Munguno, over their repeated failure to honour its invitation on the alleged fraud totaling N3,967,000,000. The Senate is currently scrutinizing queries issued against the NDLEA and the ONSA by the office of the Auditor-General for the Federation. NDLEA has 11 queries of various infractions totaling about N467m while the ONSA was expected to address a case of alleged diversion of N3.5bn meant for the National Automotive Design and Development Council. The Chairman, Senator Mathew Urhoghide expressed displeasure over the alleged refusal of both Marawa and Munguno to appear before the Senate Public Accounts Committee (SPAC). Urhoghide said, we wrote to the NDLEA in 2018 to appear before us but they did not respond despite the fact that they acknowledge the letter. “Another letter was written on February 1, 2021. Thereafter, they only sent written responses; they are supposed to appear physically, they acknowledge the letter and sent a response on March 21.

Supreme Court Affirms Charles Soludo As APGA’s Anambra Governorship Candidate

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has been affirmed as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA by the Supreme Court on Thursday in Abuja. The court in a unanimous decision by a five-man panel of justices led by Justice Mary Peter Odili, upheld the judgement of the Kano State Division of the Court of Appeal, which validated the November 6, 2021, primary election in Anambra state that produced Soludo.

APC Inaugurates National Reconciliation Committee

The Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressive Congress (APC) chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni has on Monday inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee for the party, ahead of its National Convention. Gov. Buni while performing the ceremony in Abuja, explained that the committee was set up to reconcile party members who were aggrieved by the outcome of the party congresses.
