NBA Elects Yakubu Maikyau As New President

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has elected Yakubu Maikyau, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), as the 31st President of the association. Maikyau who will be taking over from Olumide Akpata polled a total of 22, 342 votes, followed closely by fellow SAN, Joe-Kyari Gadzama, Chairman of the NBA Securities Agencies Relations Committee, who polled 10, 842 votes.

Justice Ariwoola Sworn In As Acting CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday swore in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), following the resignation of his predecessor, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, due to health grounds. Recall that we reported yesterday that Ariwoola was the next most senior Justice of the Supreme Court and was formerly a Justice of the Court of Appeal before his elevation to the Supreme Court in November 2011.

Tambuwal Speaks on Stepping Down For Atiku

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, said his decision to step down for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was aimed at strengthening democracy in Nigeria. Tambuwal stepped down for Atiku Abubakar minutes before the commencement of voting during the just concluded PDP presidential primary and asked his supporters to vote for the latter.
