Senator Stella Oduah, the Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared her intention to seek reelection on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance. According to NAN, the Senator who formerly announced her defection on Wednesday said she was motivated by the quest to achieve the Igbo Agenda, Youths and Women empowerment.

Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Lasun Yussuff, has joined the race for Osun governorship.

The Deputy Speaker declared his intention to run for the State’s September 22 gubernatorial election on Thursday in Osogbo, at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat.

Yussuff who was received at the secretariat by the State Chairman, Gboyega Famodun, was confident he will deliver as governor of the State and assured he will leverage on some of incumbent governor Rauf Aregbesola’s policies, including the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES), to create more employment in the State.

National Assembly Asks Defence Minister To Withdraw Call For Suspension Of Anti-Grazing Law

The National Assembly has asked the Minister of Defence Mansur Dan-Ali to promptly withdraw his call on states which have an anti-grazing law enacted to suspend the law.

Both chambers of the National Assembly discussed the minister’s comments separately on Wednesday but arrived at the same conclusion.

The House of Representatives plenary turned rowdy on Thursday over President Muhammadu Buahri’s declaration of June 12 as the new Democracy Day.

The lawmakers debated the powers of the Executive to make such pronunciation.

President Muhammadu Buhari had made the declaration in a statement on Wednesday that June 12 would replace May 29 as Democracy Day because it was a more symbolic day.

Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately adopt all the social intervention programmes of late MKO Abiola and celebrate the 2018 Democracy Day on June 12, 2018. Falana made the call on Wednesday after the President approved the posthumous award of the highest honour, GCFR to the presumed winner of the June 12 presidential election held in 1993, Abiola.

Buhari Hosts Traditional, Religious Leaders

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday hosted traditional and religious leaders to breaking of fast.

He reassured them that he will never betray the trust reposed in him by Nigerians no matter the challenges on ground.

He also vowed that he would never allow political office holders or public servants entrusted with the nation’s resources to abuse such trust by way of stealing or mismanagement of the resources.
